Name-Based Case Searches
The Washington Courts Case Search offers court-level paths for municipal and district, Superior, and appellate cases. A person search can use first, middle, and last name fields, while a business-name search serves organizational parties. A court choice plus name is the practical starting combination. The live system may require acceptance of a notice or CAPTCHA.
- Identify the likely court from a notice, filing, or citation.
- Choose the matching court level and Clark County court.
- Enter the last name, then add the first name to narrow results.
- Compare the case number, case type, court, and filed data before opening a match.
- Verify the result in Odyssey or with the clerk that holds the file.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court | Selection | Practical | Choose Superior, District, municipal, or appellate route. |
| Last name | Text | For person search | Confirm spelling and use other fields to separate similar names. |
| First or middle name | Text | Varies | Add only as needed to narrow a broad result. |
| Business name | Text | For business search | Use the organization’s filed name. |
Clark County State Search Modes
Washington’s official search offers case, person, attorney, and Find My Court Date routes. Its landing page is the broad discovery layer for Clark County and other participating Washington courts. The state warns that data are normally updated within 24 hours and may be incomplete or inaccurate. The result is reference information, not the court’s official record.
The official manifest capture shows the public starting screen and its disclosure.

Use the state index to locate a court and number. Then move to the Clark County portal or clerk for deeper case information.
Case Number Searches
A case number is the strongest Clark County search key because it points to one file and avoids common-name ambiguity. A non-live Superior Court example is 23-1-01234-06. The first segment marks the year, the second is the case-type segment, the center digits are the sequence, and 06 is Clark County’s code in this format.
Washington guidance identifies type 1 as criminal, 2 civil, 3 domestic, 4 probate or guardianship, 5 adoption or parentage, 6 mental illness or alcohol, 7 juvenile dependency, 8 juvenile offender, and 9 judgment. These codes help route a search. They do not disclose a case outcome. District and municipal courts may use other local formats, including letters and dashes, so copy those numbers exactly from the issuing court.
If a search rejects the number, remove spaces that were not printed on the notice but keep meaningful dashes. Recheck the year and final county code. Legacy Clark County records may use formats that do not match a current example. In that event, give the full number and party names to the proper clerk rather than altering segments until an unrelated case appears.
Clark County Odyssey Smart Search
Odyssey Portal is the local public case-information layer for Clark County Superior Court. Its landing screen exposes Smart Search, Search Hearings, Judgment Search, Party Name Search, county contacts, and official help. Anonymous visitors can view available case information, but documents and restricted matters depend on county authorization and the user’s role.
The Clark County Odyssey image identifies the official entry point without showing a private party’s search.

Odyssey requires JavaScript and cookies. If the interface will not load, use the state index, the Clerk’s public terminal, or a direct copy request instead of guessing at hidden fields.
Case Search Results Explained
A Clark County case search can return enough data to identify a file, but it may not provide every filed image. Read the case number, court, case type, caption, dates, and status together. A filed date marks when an item entered the record. It is not a hearing date. Likewise, a status or docket note may summarize an event without replacing the signed order.
| Case Number | The unique file key, such as 23-2-01234-06. |
|---|---|
| Style or Parties | The caption and party roles used to identify the case. |
| Case Type | The category, such as criminal, civil, domestic, or probate. |
| Filed Date | The date the case or listed document was entered. |
| Status | An open, closed, disposed, or other system label that must be read in context. |
| Docket Entry | A chronological event, filing, hearing, order, or clerk-recorded status. |
For the complete text, request the document from the Clark County Clerk. A portal printout is not necessarily a certified copy.
The practical access chain runs from index to summary, then to document and certified copy. Each step adds detail and authority. A calendar has less case depth than an Odyssey summary. An Odyssey entry may describe a filing but omit its image. A plain copy provides the document, while a certified copy bears the clerk’s authentication for uses that require it.
Missing Clark County Case Documents
A result without an image does not mean no document exists. Odyssey availability depends on the case, document, county authorization, and access role. Washington Case Search does not supply the official court file. Start by recording the court and case number, then check the Clark County Clerk’s access options.
The Clerk’s access-to-records page describes first-floor public terminals, OnBase access for public files, file review, and copy routes. Confidential files such as adoptions are not available at public OnBase terminals. Requests may also proceed by mail, fax, or email through the Clerk’s copy process. Phone the Clerk at 564-397-2292 when the correct route is unclear.
The public-terminal image shows that local access remains a distinct step after an online Clark County case search.

That fallback is especially useful for older, restricted, or image-limited files.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
The statewide and county tools serve different Clark County search needs. Start statewide when the court is uncertain. Use Odyssey when a known Superior Court matter needs its available local case summary. Neither tool replaces a clerk-certified copy, and neither should be treated as a complete historical index.
| Search point | Washington Case Search | Clark County Odyssey |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Participating courts across Washington | Superior Court information for Odyssey counties, including Clark |
| Best key | Court and case number, or court and name | Known case number or Smart Search terms |
| Depth | Discovery and reference data | Available local case information and authorized documents |
| Fallback | Issuing court or directory | Clark County Clerk counter, terminal, or copy request |
JIS-Link adds a paid statewide lookup route at the official listed rate of $0.145 per transaction or command, but it does not display documents. It is another index channel, not a shortcut to a certified record.
In-person and remote options remain important. Superior Court records can be checked at the Clark County Clerk’s counter and public terminals. A copy request can go by mail, fax, or email under the clerk’s published process. District Court and municipal clerks provide their own phone and counter routes. These channels help when a portal is down, requires a login, or lacks the item sought.
Clark County Issuing Court Matters
A city name does not always identify the record custodian. Clark County Superior Court holds general-jurisdiction matters. District Court handles limited civil, small-claims, infraction, misdemeanor, and contracted municipal work. Battle Ground Municipal Court also receives La Center and Ridgefield matters, while Camas-Washougal operates a joint municipal court. Vancouver matters can connect to District Court channels.
Read the citation or notice, then use the Washington Courts directory to confirm the court. A case search in the wrong system may return nothing even though a valid case exists elsewhere. Appeals also receive a separate number, so track both the lower-court file and any Washington Court of Appeals Division II file.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Washington General Rule 31 supports public access to court records, subject to statutes, rules, and court orders. General Rule 15 governs sealing and redaction. General Rule 22 protects sensitive data in family, protection-order, and guardianship records. Juvenile offender case information is not displayed on a public website even when lawful clerk access may exist.
A Clark County docket search may show a generic filing, hearing, or sealed notation while withholding the document. It may also omit the case or return only a limited summary. Do not infer hidden facts from that absence. Ask the Clark County Clerk which lawful access path applies, and use a court motion or authorized role only when court rules require it.
Clark County Search Update Limits
The state’s 24-hour update statement describes timing, not completeness. A new filing may not yet appear. A local calendar can also change after capture. When a Clark County result conflicts with a recent notice, verify the case number in Odyssey and contact the issuing court.
Verification order: Use the statewide index to discover the file, Odyssey for available Superior case detail, and the clerk for the official document or certified copy.
For a hearing, the current Clark County court schedule adds date, time, judge, and location context. For a filing or ruling, rely on the docket entry and operative document.
